San Cambcisco
**Has a shitty day at work** **Searches Kayak for cheap flights**
**San Fran appears for $80 round trip**
**Books flight without hesitation**
So there we were, $80 down, fresh off the BART in the middle of Powell Street in one of the coolest cities on earth. Hungry tummies and endless eateries to fill them.
We booked a trip to San Fran. We needed to get away and the price was right….or is that filmed in LA? I’ll spare you all the sight seeing and trolley rides and let you know about the sourdough, and the gastronomical high points only. First off, this city is overwhelming when it comes to food. Not only is there a China Town, Japan Town, Little Italy and a Fisherman’s Warf, there’s also everything in-between (and everywhere else). Thankfully we have friends. Foodie friends. I opened it up to Facebook and instantly regretting it with all the recommendations and tourist traps. Although “I’m not a foodie,” I dig the local fare and despise the tourist traps.
Where to start? Where we finished, Little Italy. As you know, I’m not a huge Italian fan. It’s over priced and spaghetti could not be more basic. With that being said, San Fran’s Little Italy was awesome. We’re going to focus on Molinari’s though. Probably the most legitimate Italian deli I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting. I knew what I wanted from the get-go (thanks yelp). I ordered the Renzo. Bu first lets talk about this order process. The first rule about ordering a sandwich at Molinari’s is to never as the staff how to order. I quietly asked the people in the shop who responded “we’re just as confused as you.” Thankfully, I noticed that the person in front of us picked out their bread and went right up to the counter, I followed suit. Now the renzo is straight sex on a bun. In layman’s terms: proscuitto, coppa, fresh mozzarella and sun dried tomatoes on a seeded roll. I can’t even describe what my mouth and mind were going through as I ate this sub on the steps of the church across the street. All I can say is “Lord have mercy.” If you’re there, make it a priority to go there. It’s always comforting buying a sub from the same place that has fresh rolled ravioli. **Side note: We also dinned at Tosca Café by April Bloomfield. Another must, if you’re into Mind Of A Chef like I am, there’s no question.**
Next in line, Woodhouse Fish co. in the Fillmore district. Two words, Lobster. Roll. Wait, actually I need two more, Clam. Roll. I wanted oysters so bad but I had just downed six dumplings on a bike ride to Golden Gate (see next paragraph). Lobster Roll is always a must for us on vacation. This was no exception. The Clam Roll was a one off to avoid ordering the same thing in a social setting. We’re close, but not THAT close…. The Clam Roll was awesome, Lobster Roll always the winner.
Surprisingly, I was super white girl though. Not only did I ride a bike to the Golden Gate, I stopped at a Farmers Market….I couldn’t EVEN. So much produce and likeeee stufffff to buyyyyyy (valley girl accent). I however, used my spidey senses and found a dumpling booth. I saw 3 for $4 and I was sold. Two pork cabbage, 2 chicken cilantro, 2 shrimp. I ate them all. I COULD even. I figured I had worked off at least one of the duping casings with the bike ride so ummm “treat yo self.” Trust me, the pictures will do it justice, once and for all.
This wasn’t all we ate, just the highlights. Actually, because of lighting issues, food pornography was limited. I made the best with what I could. Don’t tell me I never did anything for you. Now drool betch.
